After a sad goodbye with my Mom and Papa, we got our bags all checked in and made our way through security and to our departure gate.
IcelandAir– where the flight attendants wear tilted hats and the Northern lights glow above the overhead compartments–Our direct flight to Reykjavik was 7.5 hours long, and we didn’t sleep at all. (that was Bitty’s idea)
Whipping winds and rain greeted us on the tarmac in Iceland, we hurried inside and through customs and just barely made our next flight to Paris.
This flight was 3.5 hours long and Bitty slept the whole way, I tried with no success.
Dogged tired in Paris we made our way on the shuttle to our terminal, 4 stops away, and then caught our flight to Bordeaux. An easy hour long flight and we arrived at our new home! Well, almost, a 30 minute drive brought us here to La Reole.
Day 1. we arrived and slept
Day 2. we slept
Day 3. Go Time!
Happy New Year and Bonne Sante
For years I have struggled with the notion of gift giving at Christmas.
Even as a little girl I didn’t understand why presents under the tree merited such focus during the holidays (that’s a joke, I’m sure like all kids I was a big fan of more is more).
Ha, well anyways as an adult I’ve come to find that element of Christmas to be almost a turn off. I don’t want to be told when to buy a gift for someone, nor do I want to instill a sense of gift-entitlement to my daughter. Should kids, or anyone, expect to be unwrapping mounds of presents because of the date on the calendar? And how many times have you received a gift around the holidays, felt bad about not returning the favor, and rushed to the store in order to reciprocate?
What is Christmas all about Charlie Brown? How about ice-skating and cookie decorating and christmas caroling and finding snow and holiday parties and hot cocoa by the fireplace around the tree sharing stories and memories with the people we love?
Of course, there is great joy to be found in giving, and the holidays are the time that we are inspired and reminded to do so. Perhaps it is time to reflect on what we do and why we do it, especially when it comes to traditions that have been passed through generations and will continue after we are gone.
Let’s give gifts all year long! Gifts of love and time and memories. And when you want to buy a gift for someone, by all means, do it! And don’t put it in the closet until Christmas– Give it to them right away!
We trivialize the holidays when we turn them into a shopping spree. The spirit of giving goes beyond buying presents.
Get into the spirit of giving and GIVE YOUR PRESENCE. Get creative and wrap it up, let me know how that goes : )
Live life on your own terms. rainbowvanadventures.com
As a single mom I don’t have the option to just not work.
But I refused to be a slave to corporate America and have my lifestyle dictated by bosses and companies who care only about the bottom line.
So I needed a way to be able to work online from home…
I believe that within all of us is the power to choose and create a better life.
My daughter was all the motivation I needed to quit my job and work from home.
What is your dream lifestyle? And what or who motivates you to make it happen??
Maybe Today will be the Day You Decide To Start Living On Your Own Terms!

Try new things–like chai tea, or Tai Chi!
So I went to my first Tai Chi class and it was different than I had expected.
The movement was constant, and I found that it required much more mental exertion than physical.
We activated the points of energy in the palm of our hands, the tops of our feet, and beneath the belly button (the second chakra).
Moving with our breaths, we inhaled bringing energy into our body through a certain point and then released the breath and energy through a different and counter point.
It was interesting. It felt good in a challenging way. I would highly recommend trying it for yourself!

I don’t know where I come up with this stuff, But it’s funny and TRUE!
1. Kids bring an element of magic to the party. More magic=more fun.
2. The Educational Aspect of Traveling is magnified. Vacations become purposeful.
3. Safety in Kid Zones. Activities change, which means more safety, adventure, and memories!

Her answers crack me up, the spider house?! That’s the home we lived in in Salinas, Ecuador that I liked the least!
And don’t worry, the spiders were just like little daddy long legs, not gross or dangerous.
Hope this video brings you a smile at least!
This is the story of our troubles crossing from Guatemala into Mexico. We had to actually forge documents to be let through with our van! And that was after driving illegally in the night along the border to try our fake papers at the next crossing, 4 hours away. My advice-whether they are real or fake, get your papers in order before driving north through central america : )
